Even in the late 2020’s, medical science still hadn’t found a cure for several causes of death related to extensive damage to the brain. The bicycle helmet was still the best thing going for prevention. Fred’s job involved research into the use of computer circuits to replace irreparable portions of the brain. Given that Fred was very much a loaner and dedicated to his work, it was no wonder he hadn’t been selected to work on the latest circuits designed for use where areas of the brain providing personality and so on had been destroyed.
