&lt;p&gt;I&amp;rsquo;d waited weeks for this day to arrive, and today Nicki was arriving from Colorado for a three-day visit. I’d taken several days off of work, and my kids were staying with their mom. Nicki was my friend, soul mate, and former lover from high school. We&amp;rsquo;d dated briefly in high school in Colorado, before parting ways as friends. I&amp;rsquo;d joined the Army to satisfy my wanderlust and escape the small town, and she had married and settled down to raise a family.
