&lt;p&gt;&lt;em&gt;The first hard evidence of a Viking settlement in what is now Rhode Island was discovered in 1963 by Sven Olsen, an amateur archaeologist exploring his 640 acre farm. His discoveries were ignored for several decades, but eventually they were accepted and endorsed by academic archaeologists. It was the middle of July, 1889, and it was hot, even here in the highlands of the northern part of the Territory. Train movements provided most of the &amp;rsquo;excitement&amp;rsquo; during the daytime. There wasn&amp;rsquo;t much else happening.&lt;/p&gt;</description></item></channel></rss>
